Manchester United 3-1 Wigan

Manchester United extends their lead at the top of the English Premier League (EPL) to four points over Chau si (Chelsea) after another impressive win at Old Trafford against Wigan. It was all United in the first half as Wigan didn’t even manage a shot at goal. Edwin Van der Sar had almost nothing to save.

The first real chance came after Wes Brown won a header against Wigan’s fullback one the right before galloping down the byline. His precise cross was met by Rooney. Rooney connected perfectly to the cross but the lady luck was on Wigan’s side as his shot bounce against Chris Kirkland’s thigh before he scrambled the ball away from the goal line.

Wigan couldn’t come out from their half and was only able to rely on their counter attack without really posing any threat to United’s goal. United controlled the match with the smooth passing game. The next chance came after Rooney was put through. However his first touch left the ball slighly behind him and Rooney dragged his shot agonizingly wide of Kirkland’s far post.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s decision to leave out some of the first team players such as top scorer Luis Saha, Giggs, Ferdinand, Gary Neville and Ronaldo because of the hectic festive December schedule looked to have affected United’s attacking play as the match went on longer. Although United was dictating the play but it was penetrative enough to trouble Wigan’s goalkeeper. Wigan defended well and only restricting United to long shot outside the penalty box. End of first half.

In the second half, Darren Fletcher made way for Ronaldo as Ferguson decided add more fire power upfront. His decision for the change was absolutely spot on as the Player of the Season to be, Ronaldo, scores from the first corner of the second half in the 47th minute. Scholes took the corner and Ronaldo lose his marker to score a free header with his first touch of the match.

Four minutes later, Ronaldo scored his 2nd goal of the match from the penalty spot after the evergreen Park Ji Sung was fell inside the penalty box. United continued with their superb attacking play and shortly after that Solskjaer a.k.a. The Baby Face Assasin, scored after Rooney won a header.

It wasn’t to be Rooney’s night although his had his moments of contributions in the match. In the 76th minute, Rooney had another great chance to score in this match but his shot rattled the bar after his shot beats Kirkland.

Into the last minute of the match (1 minute added), United was comfortable with their lead but Wigan won a penalty just seconds left after Silvestre fouled a Wigan player inside the box. Leighton Baines took the penalty kick right in the centre and scored.

End of match – Manchester United 3-1 Wigan. United extends their lead to four points after Chau Si could only draw 2-2 against newly promoted Reading after an error by Ashley Cole in the 85th minute where his attempted clearance hit Essien and resulted in an own goal.

United is going to be Champion this season and this definitely will shut Mourinho’s mouth! Hahaha…
